Did anyone see Phil Mickelson’s prediction of who would win the Super Bowl? He had two golf balls, one decorated with Colts logos and one with Saints logos. He said whatever teams ball he hit the farthest would win the Super Bowl, and he hit the Saints Bowl the farthest! Maybe we should rely on Phil to pick all the winners of sporting events from now on! On to this weeks question. What is your dream foursome? Would you love to play with Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus? Or maybe Tom Watson, Greg Norman and Tiger Woods? Let us know in the comments below! Debbie’s lunch special on Thursday is Chicken Pot Pie, the perfect food for a cloudy day! Thanks to everyone who came out to the Australia Day dinner on Thursday, we’re so glad everyone enjoyed the shrimp on the barbie, shepards pie and the other delectable offerings. February 21st is the next event at the club, an Italian brunch starting at noon featuring lasagna, spaghetti, baked ziti salad and a surprise dessert! On March 17th Tennessee National will be celebrating St. Patricks Day at the clubhouse grille with a festive dinner. We’d love to have all our residents, members and property owners join us! The menu includes Corned beef, cabbage, boiled red potatoes, bangers sausages and more! Please call 865-657-2001 ext. 2 to RSVP for these events. Please RSVP no later than 72 hours before the event. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon! Hi all! This weeks question revolves around the clubs in your bag. What is your favorite golf club in your golf bag? Is it your nine iron? Putter? Driver? Let us know in the comments, we would love to hear your thoughts! We are going to start a new weekly post, the question of the week. Actually, today’s question is two questions! What is the name of best golf course you have played? What is the name of one golf course you would like to play, but haven’t had the opportunity to play? Today’s questions should be easy, unless it is difficult for you to pick the best golf course you have played! And I am sure that will happen with a few people. Our first assistant, David Vannier said the best course he has played is Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, FL. The course he would like to play Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania. How about you, tell us what courses you have played and want to play! With all the cold weather we have been having lately today is just what everyone needs to get back out on the golf course, almost 60 degrees and sunny! Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, so today is the perfect day to come play a round! Tennessee National is roughs only today with the course opening at 10am. The Golfing Life will be posting events that Tennessee National Golf Club will be hosting for our golf members, residents and property owners on a weekly basis. Here is this weeks update, Thursday the Clubhouse grille is having a spaghetti and gourmet meatballs lunch special. We’d love to have our residents, golf members and property owners out for lunch! We also have the Austraila Day Celebration at 5:30 pm on January 28th. Please RSVP to Debbie by calling 865-657-2001 ext. 2 With Vijay Singh playing his first tournament since knee surgery in November and Zach Johnson the defending champion the second tournament of the PGA tour season, the Sony Open, promises to be one not to miss. Other notables playing include last week’s runner-up Rory Sabbatini, Stuart Appleby, Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Ernie Els & Y.E. Yang (just to name a few). Television coverage will begin on the Golf Channel at 7pm EST on 1/14 and also start at 7pm 1/15, 1/16 & 1/17.

A year after winning here by six shots, Ogilvy posted his eighth consecutive round in the 60s on the Plantation Course. He joined fellow Australian Stuart Appleby as the only repeat winners since this tournament moved to Kapalua in 1999, and he became only the seventh player in the 58 years of this winners-only tournament to win in consecutive years. Here’s a link to the leaderboard to see the full results. East Tennessee has had some very cold weather over the past week or so, which has closed the golf course for a few days. I know we still have people out there who want to work on their golf game during this cold weather. You can work on your game without leaving the comfort of your home or garage. Here is a golf practice tip from our golf membership manager, Robert Stevenson. You can practice your golf swing in your home or garage (just look out for fans, sprinkler heads, etc. before you swing!). You will be surprised by what you may notice when you take time to just focus on your swing, with no golf ball involved. Make your swing in slow motion and focus on how the body works together to make the swing happen. Go slow…make it last 20 seconds or longer. You will be able to notice the lack of erratic movements and unnecessary motions. Now is a great time to work on the positioning of your weight, your balance, and your flexibility. Remember to keep the weight on the balls of your feet, not your heels. When you notice an irregularity or erratic movement in your swing, start over. When the weather warms up and you can get back on the practice tee you will notice a difference in your balance and your swing will be more fluid. The Golfing Life will be taking a holiday break today through January 3rd. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy and safe New Year’s! Here at The Golfing Life we try to stay away from the gossip of the golf world. However, I think we would be remiss to ignore what is going on with the whole Tiger Woods debacle. We won’t comment on his “transgressions”, but we can’t not mention the fact that he has decided to postpone his golf career indefinately. Many people are asking, “What does this mean for the game of golf?” The game will certainly change, probably in viewship, sponsorship and a host of other ways. But while what Tiger did was most certainly wrong, we certainly put him up on a pedestal didn’t we? Everyone (except for some pros apparently) thought Tiger was all about golf 24/7 and when we found out he wasn’t, that he is human and makes mistakes that perfect image came crashing down. Following that theme, I read an interesting blog post late last week on Yahoo! Sports by Dan Wetzel, discussing the comparisons that have been made between Tiger and Phil Mickelson and how maybe they haven’t aways been fair to Mikelson. Here’s an excerpt:
As expected, quite a few professional golfers have commented on Tiger’s decision to leave the game of golf indefinately. Stephanie Wei, from www.weiunderpar.com has compiled quotes from Greg Norman, Steve Williams, Nick Price, Colin Montgomerie and other golfers. To see all of them check out her blog. Here are a few of the quotes.
What do you think? How will the game of golf change now that Tiger is out of contention for a while? |
