Ireland Golf Trip

There are many benefits of being a member of Tennessee National Golf Club, the state of the art practice facility, teaching pros who really know what they are doing, members only events, the list goes on and on. But did you know that Tennessee National golf members are also able to go on golf trips planned by our golf professionals? This September, 10 golf members will be crossing the pond to Ireland with our golf professionals, Adam Foegen and David Vannier. They will be playing some of the best courses in Ireland (if not the world), Waterville, Old Head, Tralee, Ballybunion & Killarny Golf and Fishing Club (the Kileen Course). Adam and David planned the entire trip, made the tee times, arranged for the accomodations and transportation between the airport and each of the golf courses and even a few meals. All our members had to do is find what flight works best for them (and Adam and David are helped with that too!).

Savannah Golf Trip

18 members just returned from a long weekend in Savannah, at another Medallist Golf Course, Savannah Quarters. Tennessee National played Savannah Quarters in the first Medallist Cup Golf Tournament. Savannah Quarters was victorious on their home course, but Tennessee National will be able to defend their title this fall when Savannah Quarters members come to Tennessee National to play again.

The trip to Savannah was hassle free thanks to excellent planning by Melea Shatley and golf membership manager Robert Stevenson in conjunction with Savannah Quarters staff. Tennessee National members made the trip to Savannah in a luxury motor coach and even enjoyed keeping up with the March Madness Games on their return to Tennessee National! Upon arrival at Savannah Quarters on Friday night members were treated to an fabulous dinner at the Savannah Quarters Clubhouse. Accommodations were in the heart of downtown Savannah so members could enjoy the city after their round of golf on Saturday. Sunday was the big day for the tournament and even though Tennessee National didn’t take home the trophy a wonderful time was had by all!

Upcoming Trip: Australia 2011

Tennessee National is committed to providing this wonderful opportunities to our members and we are now in the planning stages for a golf and sightseeing trip to Sydney, Australia in January 2011 for our golf members. Call Rebecca Vannier at 865-408-9992 to register your interest.

Are you interested in a golf membership at Tennessee National? Call Robert Stevenson for more information 865-963-6623.

Well, Adam & David didn’t predict the winner of the Tour Championship, but Adam did call Tiger as the winner of the Fed Ex Cup. Here is what they had to say about the Tour Championship.

Adam Foegen “It was a great win for Phil with all that has happened in his personal life this year. When you hole long putts all week and then do things like chip in from the rough on Sundays it’s your time to win no matter who is trying to close the gap. And let’s not forget that Tiger did win his second Fed-Ex cup in three years. It was a good day for golf on Sunday for whoever you were pulling for.”

David Vannier “Steve played well but didn’t have enough to finish it off. Steve had a great year and I can’t wait to see him play at the President’s Cup. Steve’s swing is so simple and repeatable that he will be a strong force for the United States. Phil played great Sunday and deserved to win. Phil really hung in there after a bad hole during the first round and that goes to show you how good these guys really are that they can come back and win.”

Despite all the rain Atlanta got this week, the PGA Tour Championship will go on as scheduled at East Lake Golf Club. I thought it would be fun to get predictions from our Director of Golf, Adam Foegen and Assistant Golf Professional, David Vannier on who they think will take home the $10 million purse on Sunday.

Adam Foegen’s prediction: Tiger Woods – “Tiger will win because he is back from a medical layoff and working harder than ever on his game and wants to prove a point that he is still the #1 player in the world. Most importantly he did not win a major this year so the highlight of his season has to be a Tour Championship win.”

David Vannier’s prediction: Steve Stricker – “He is hot right now and playing incredibly. Steve’s confidence is high coming off his win two weeks ago at the Deutsche Bank Championship and has won two other times this year. Steve has a very simple swing that keeps him straight and because of that I think he has a great chance at any event.”

If you get a chance, come out and support a great cause!

The Patricia Neal Golf Classic is a TPGA sanctioned pro/am event benefiting the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, TN. The Center is named in honor of a child of Knoxville, a gifted actress, a gallant woman who became a national symbol of hope through her rehabilitation from three massive strokes. The Center is dedicated to people with disabilities who are learning to become as independent as they possibly can.
Over the last 22 years, this prestigious golf tournament has raised over $3 million in net proceeds to support the many programs and services of the rehab center. The tournament brings Tennessee professional golfers together with local amateurs for a worthwhile cause at one of the state’s top courses.

Since everyone can’t enlist the help of a former NASA scientist to hone their putting, golf instructors and courses around the country are calling upon TOMI, The Optimal Motion Instructor putting aid.

Tennessee National, a Greg Norman design located in Loudon, is among its faithful.

No bigger than a can of Coke, TOMI is a portable Pelz. Developed by putting instructor Marius Filmalter, the TOMI’s infrared transmitter and USB camera capture every movement of the putting stroke and race the results to a laptop in real time.

TOMI breaks down eight key components of the putting stroke into instant data about a player’s:

- Alignment at address.

- Alignment at impact.

- Path of the putter at impact.

- Stroke path and rotation.

- Shaft angle.

- Impact on the putter face.

- Putter speed.

- Stroke tempo.

The numerical and visual feedback allow teaching professionals to craft drills designed at correcting the problems.

Tennessee National director of golf Adam Foegen said the members there are taking full advantage of the break-through equipment. After all, it beats thumbing through Pelz’s Short Game Bible – which is anything but short.
