Is golf as hard as Obama seems to think?

Over at Addicted2Golf, they’re talking about President Obama’s attempts at weekend golfing:

Evidently, the President has been playing most weekends with his aides and believes he should be good at the game.

This raises an interesting question. If the most powerful man in the world can’t groove his golf swing then what chance do you and I have?

Our View

According to a study by the National Golf Foundation last year, there are an estimated 15 million golfers in the US who are over 18 years of age and play at least 8 rounds per year. And many of them are struggling with the same issue that President Obama faces now. You see, our President’s day job gets in the way of his golf. He has limited time to practice and can really only play on the weekends.

Justin Timberlake to pen golf book?

Tennessee native Justin Timberlake’s love of golf is well-known, and now it’s being reported that a literary agent is shopping around a proposal for a Timberlake-penned “golf memoir.”

Mr. Timberlake has been a golf fanatic for years, getting his first taste of the game as a boy and later playing it with a group of roadies during the last *NSYNC tour. Today, he regularly competes in charity tournaments, and even owns an environmentally friendly golf course in his hometown of Millington, Tennessee.

Though neither Mr. Vigliano nor Mr. Timberlake’s publicist, Sonia Muckle, would comment on the project, we hear it’ll be something of a memoir, consisting of stories of rounds he has played and people he has played with.

There is at least one recent precedent for such a project: in 2008, Three Rivers Press published shock rocker Alice Cooper’s Golf Monster: A Rock ’n’ Roller’s Life and 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict.

Hi-Tech Golf Stroke Evaluation at Tennessee National

Since everyone can’t enlist the help of a former NASA scientist to hone their putting, golf instructors and courses around the country are calling upon TOMI, The Optimal Motion Instructor putting aid.

Tennessee National, a Greg Norman design located in Loudon, is among its faithful.

No bigger than a can of Coke, TOMI is a portable Pelz. Developed by putting instructor Marius Filmalter, the TOMI’s infrared transmitter and USB camera capture every movement of the putting stroke and race the results to a laptop in real time.

TOMI breaks down eight key components of the putting stroke into instant data about a player’s:

- Alignment at address.

- Alignment at impact.

- Path of the putter at impact.

- Stroke path and rotation.

- Shaft angle.

- Impact on the putter face.

- Putter speed.

- Stroke tempo.

The numerical and visual feedback allow teaching professionals to craft drills designed at correcting the problems.

Tennessee National director of golf Adam Foegen said the members there are taking full advantage of the break-through equipment. After all, it beats thumbing through Pelz’s Short Game Bible – which is anything but short.
