Ireland Golf Trip

There are many benefits of being a member of Tennessee National Golf Club, the state of the art practice facility, teaching pros who really know what they are doing, members only events, the list goes on and on. But did you know that Tennessee National golf members are also able to go on golf trips planned by our golf professionals? This September, 10 golf members will be crossing the pond to Ireland with our golf professionals, Adam Foegen and David Vannier. They will be playing some of the best courses in Ireland (if not the world), Waterville, Old Head, Tralee, Ballybunion & Killarny Golf and Fishing Club (the Kileen Course). Adam and David planned the entire trip, made the tee times, arranged for the accomodations and transportation between the airport and each of the golf courses and even a few meals. All our members had to do is find what flight works best for them (and Adam and David are helped with that too!).

Savannah Golf Trip

18 members just returned from a long weekend in Savannah, at another Medallist Golf Course, Savannah Quarters. Tennessee National played Savannah Quarters in the first Medallist Cup Golf Tournament. Savannah Quarters was victorious on their home course, but Tennessee National will be able to defend their title this fall when Savannah Quarters members come to Tennessee National to play again.

The trip to Savannah was hassle free thanks to excellent planning by Melea Shatley and golf membership manager Robert Stevenson in conjunction with Savannah Quarters staff. Tennessee National members made the trip to Savannah in a luxury motor coach and even enjoyed keeping up with the March Madness Games on their return to Tennessee National! Upon arrival at Savannah Quarters on Friday night members were treated to an fabulous dinner at the Savannah Quarters Clubhouse. Accommodations were in the heart of downtown Savannah so members could enjoy the city after their round of golf on Saturday. Sunday was the big day for the tournament and even though Tennessee National didn’t take home the trophy a wonderful time was had by all!

Upcoming Trip: Australia 2011

Tennessee National is committed to providing this wonderful opportunities to our members and we are now in the planning stages for a golf and sightseeing trip to Sydney, Australia in January 2011 for our golf members. Call Rebecca Vannier at 865-408-9992 to register your interest.

Are you interested in a golf membership at Tennessee National? Call Robert Stevenson for more information 865-963-6623.

East Tennessee has had some very cold weather over the past week or so, which has closed the golf course for a few days. I know we still have people out there who want to work on their golf game during this cold weather. You can work on your game without leaving the comfort of your home or garage. Here is a golf practice tip from our golf membership manager, Robert Stevenson.

You can practice your golf swing in your home or garage (just look out for fans, sprinkler heads, etc. before you swing!). You will be surprised by what you may notice when you take time to just focus on your swing, with no golf ball involved. Make your swing in slow motion and focus on how the body works together to make the swing happen. Go slow…make it last 20 seconds or longer. You will be able to notice the lack of erratic movements and unnecessary motions. Now is a great time to work on the positioning of your weight, your balance, and your flexibility. Remember to keep the weight on the balls of your feet, not your heels. When you notice an irregularity or erratic movement in your swing, start over. When the weather warms up and you can get back on the practice tee you will notice a difference in your balance and your swing will be more fluid.

By guest blogger Robert Stevenson

Terry and Janet Felts graciously opened the door to their beautiful Tennessee National home to a couple of girls who traveled all the way from Australia to play in the Women’s TRANS National Championship. Little did they know that Stacy Keating and Julia Boland, of Cressy and Sydney respectively, would outlast the competition and find themselves finalists at the 79 year old golf tournament. Even less did Terry realize that he would be caddying for Keating, 36 holes a day for two days… quite a feat for a guy who owns his own cart and chooses to use it. The young Aussie needed someone on the bag, and Terry stepped up. He was with Keating as she eliminated Cheyenne Woods (Tiger’s niece) in a back and forth, nail biting exhibit of unbelievably executed golf shots. Sunday he was with her one final time as she took on her housemate and fellow countrywoman Julia, who is regarded as Australia’s number one amateur. Janet Felts was in the gallery with an Australian flag hung on the back of her cart, showing support for both girls.
The Felt’s residence will no doubt be highly sought after for future competitors staying on site, credit the hospitable accommodations or Terry’s cooking, either way it worked out well for Stacy and Julia.
A special thanks to Jungle Jimmy (one of our excellent outside staff) who jumped on Keating’s bag to relieve Felts for 9 holes to give him a breather.
