High School Region 2 AAA event today at Tennessee National

Tennessee National is proud to be hosting 65 players and 3 teams from 17 area high schools for the Region 2 AAA golf tournament today. Boys teams from Powell, Farragut & Oak Ridge will be playing to advance. Notable individual players are Davis Bunn from Farragut & Savanna Schubert from Oak Ridge. Savanna played in the Womens Trans National at Tennessee National in July. Davis Bunn won the Greater Knoxville Amaetur and was noted by the Knoxville News Sentinel as one of the top PrepXtra golfers this year.

A thank you from the southern hemisphere

As I’m sure our loyal readers will remember, in July Tennessee National hosted the 79th Women’s Trans National Golf Tournament. We had a great bunch of ladies from all over the world at our course for the tournament. They were all so friendly, respectful and appreciative. The golf shop staff received quite a few thank-you’s from the ladies playing in the tournament and I wanted to share one of the thank-you’s with you.

To Tennessee National,
My name is Whitney Hiller from Joondalup Resort in Perth, Western Australia.
I recently played in the Trans National Championships on the 20-24th July and I wanted to say a big thank you for all your hospitality and kindness you gave to all the players. I had a great time and absolutely loved the course.
My father and I stayed with Gary and Susan Cassell, they are great people and we felt so lucky to stay with them for the week. They made us feel at home and we really appreciated what they did for us.
Thanks to all the members who gave up the course for the week, we had great weather too!
I love the layout of the course and I think Greg Norman did an exceptional job in designing it. Go Aussies!
I met a lot of great people that week and found it is definately a small world.
Thank you so much once again, I will be coming back to Tennessee National very soon.

Australia and America team up once again at Tennessee National

Terry and Janet Felts graciously opened the door to their beautiful Tennessee National home to a couple of girls who traveled all the way from Australia to play in the Women’s TRANS National Championship. Little did they know that Stacy Keating and Julia Boland, of Cressy and Sydney respectively, would outlast the competition and find themselves finalists at the 79 year old golf tournament. Even less did Terry realize that he would be caddying for Keating, 36 holes a day for two days… quite a feat for a guy who owns his own cart and chooses to use it. The young Aussie needed someone on the bag, and Terry stepped up. He was with Keating as she eliminated Cheyenne Woods (Tiger’s niece) in a back and forth, nail biting exhibit of unbelievably executed golf shots. Sunday he was with her one final time as she took on her housemate and fellow countrywoman Julia, who is regarded as Australia’s number one amateur. Janet Felts was in the gallery with an Australian flag hung on the back of her cart, showing support for both girls.
The Felt’s residence will no doubt be highly sought after for future competitors staying on site, credit the hospitable accommodations or Terry’s cooking, either way it worked out well for Stacy and Julia.
A special thanks to Jungle Jimmy (one of our excellent outside staff) who jumped on Keating’s bag to relieve Felts for 9 holes to give him a breather.

We got some great comments on the Tennessee National golf course from Trans National Champion Julia Boland & runner-up Stacey Keating and wanted to share them with our readers.

”It is a superior course designed by our countryman, Greg Norman, and it’s in beautiful condition. The greens are superb. I had not three putted all week until today and that is an indication of how well these greens roll,” Julia Boland, Trans National Champion.

“I love this course; there are lots of birdies out there and it is an excellent match play course,” said Stacey Keating, Trans National Runner-Up.

Julia Boland wins Women’s Trans National Championship!

Here are the details of Julia’s victory over Stacey Keating from the Women’s Trans National site:

Julia Boland, Sydney, AU, was the victor over her friend and fellow Aussie, Stacey Keating, Cressy, AU, by a score of 2 & 1 in the 36 hole final match for the Women’s Trans National Golf Championship. It was a “dogfight” as each had predicted it would be; the match was all square or 1 up for most of the morning round as each struggled on the Greg Norman designed course at Tennessee National. Boland appeared to have more success on the greens where Keating was having some problems with her putter. Boland was dormie as they played the 34th hole, but Keating birdied to Boland’s par and they moved to the 35th hole, where both had pars to end the match, Boland 2 & 1.

Nielson & Woods to face off today in Match Play

Calle Nielson & Cheyenne Woods will tee off at 8am today in a match that should be one of the best of the Womens Trans National. Nielson has lead the tournament and Woods has followed close behind. Todays parings will have the world on stage including: Stacey Keating & Julia Boland from Austraila, and Ana Imelda Tanpinco from the Philippines. Tennesse will also be represented by junior player Mary Alice Murphy.

Final rounds will be played on Saturday starting at 8am and Noon. Admission is free! Come out to Tennessee National and watch some great golf!

Nielson continues winning ways

Calle Nielson stayed on the top of the leaderboard at Tennessee National Golf Club finishing yesterday’s second round of qualifying with a 71 and total 137 in the Womens TRANS National Campionships. Yesterday’s field was cut to 64 after a 7 person playoff for the final 5 spots. Match play started today at 8am.

Cheyenne Woods to play Tennessee National course for Women’s Trans National

Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, along with 119 other women amateur golfers from around the world will be teeing it up at Tennessee National this weekend for the 79th Womens Trans National Golf Championships. We are excited to have a talented group of women golfers out to play our course over the next week. The co-am is a shotgun start on Saturday, July 18th and the first qualifying round is on Monday at 9am.

We would love to have you come out at watch these ladies play golf at Tennessee National, admission is free! Tuesday’s round starts at 9am, and Wednesday-Saturdays rounds start at 8am. The Championship is Saturday, July 25th starting at 8am.

Jimmy & John from the Sports Animal will be broadcasting live from Tennessee National on Monday from 3-7pm.
